(Redirected from ATSC PCI Cards)

PCI Video Cards (AJA, Blackmagic-Design, Deltacast) Video Outputs Modes: YUV and ARGB (depending on the card) External and Internal Keying: Yes. The video card must support external and/or internal Keying in the resolution desired: Scrubbing (move playout at Time position) Yes. 4K capable.

On this page you will find information regarding ATSCPCI and mini-PCI cards. If you require further information on a device, have a look at its specific wiki article.

  • Once installed, there will be desktop icons for OnAirGT TV, OnAir HD Editor and OnAir GT Remote. To start the OnAir HDTV GT, install the antenna or a RCA cable from a Digital unencrypted QAM source. Next, plug in the the miniUSB connector into the device, and then plug the standard USB connector into the laptop or desktop PC.
  • Future variant 3 will have a 'C' appended. Variant 1 has no 'A' appended. Fixed OHCI controller problem for USB drivers. Drivers support both Variants of the USB Card. Both old style Variant 1 (with embedded PC Card) and new style Variant 2 (single board). For each OS a multi-brand INF file is generated.
Please be aware that:
  • The information contained here is likely non-exhaustive and, despite best efforts to do otherwise, may contain errors. (Please help to keep these lists up-to-date so that they are useful for everyone!)
  • If your device is not listed, try:
    • searching the existing mailing list archives:
      • Linux-Media Mailing List (LMML) archives (via vger or .... )
      • or from the older mailing lists (now largely deprecated in favour of the LMML):
        • dvb mailing list archives (via spinics or MARC ... )
        • v4l mailing list archives (via .... )
    • searching for information with Google or other internet search engine
    • by posting a question about the device directly to the LMML (but please do conduct a search first, as it may already have been discussed!)
    • Note: when it comes to support, it is generally a good idea to try the current V4L-DVB sources because some device drivers can be very new and thus may have not made their way into the mainstream kernel.
In any regard, in respect to the above listed suggestions, you may find it to be the case that your device is actually already supported or that experimental support is available.
  • Because the component constitution on many devices are often similar or identical, there may be devices that are unlisted but may actually work with the existing driver framework for previously supported devices. In such a case, your non-listed but working device will likely be reported in your system messages as being one of those previously supported devices. If you encounter such an occurrence, please do report your success on the LMML so that proper detection/identification of your device can be added within the drivers.
  • Lastly, it bears worth repeating the request: Please help to keep these lists up-to-date so that they are useful for everyone!

  • uses proprietary asic, behind which the tuning functions are 'hidden'
  • Note 1: Functioning 64/256-QAM support has finally been confirmed (example).
  • Note 2: The demodulator supports 64/256-QAM, but there apparently was a board level hardware problem that prevented its reception. For more details, see the FusionHDTV3 Gold article.
  • Note 3: The Flexcop IC's hardware PID filtering capability allows the card to discard unwanted packets from the Transport Stream payload. This typically amounts to saving <10% off the bitrate of a 8-VSB (~19.4 Mbps) or 64-QAM (~27 Mbps) Transport Stream, and >55% of the bitrate of a 256-QAM (~38.8 Mbps) Transport Stream. In other words, the AirStar/Air2PC cards usually consume less PCI and memory bandwidth than the other cards because they have a hardware PID filter. For more details, see the FlexCop article.
  • Note 4: Although the demodulator supports 64/256-QAM, no Firmware currently exists for such support, as pcHDTV was apparently unable to obtain such licensing from Oren. For more details, see this and this.
  • Note 5: The demodulator supports 64/256-QAM, but most people report unusually high error rates and are unable to achieve reception. As a result, it is widely circulated that the card will not support QAM, however some users have been successful (for example, see this post). Nonetheless, they are likely the exception, rather than the usual case.
  • Note 6: Has a working comp/s-video port hidden behind the card-plate.
  • Note 7: An AVerMedia press release (Jan 8 2007, CES) mentions them demonstrating an 'updated AVerTVHD MCE A180'. It does not indicate what updates have been made to the card.
  • Note 8: Although the demodulator supports 64/256-QAM, no Firmware currently exists for such support.

Likely work as is or can be made to work with some manual configuration:

Note: If you own one of these cards, and you have got it working, please send in a patch (which establishes automagic recognition and configuration of the card) for inclusion into the kernel

If you own one or more devices from the following list and you want to help with support development, please contact the Linux-Media Mailing List (LMML). Note that if your device is similar to or contains components for which driver development is currently being undertaken, then it is possible that you will pique the developers' interest and can obtain some assistance that, possibly, leads to full support for your device.

However, please note that inquiries to the mailing list:

Driver(int)
  • Should NOT be treated as an order drop-off queue. You're soliciting help from volunteer developers who work on V4L-DVB matters in their spare time, and such work can be non-trivial (i.e. requiring even thousands of hours work). So being demanding is one sure route to being ignored. (Honestly, this point really shouldn't even need to be written, but you'd be surprised at the number of irrational individuals who write into the mailing list demanding this or that).
  • May pass without garnering a response—a distinct byproduct of the fact that there are a limited number of developers, whom might be able to help, that are associated with the project. Often times, even if they wished to help, their energies are entirely tied up with other projects. In such cases, the best path might be to try to spearhead the driver development for your device yourself, or hire someone who can.
